What makes Ananda's oils different? Learn about our conscientious selection process here...

Cistus Cistus is a small, sticky shrub native to the Mediterranean and Middle East. The essential oil is produced by steam distillation of the leaves. It is pale yellow-orange with a strong, sweet, dry-herbaceous aroma. Its odor effect is generally perceived as warming and restorative.

Cistus oil is used in many skin care blends. Blend with German Chamomile to treat chronic slow healing skin disorders like psoriasis, eczema, infected and inflamed skin conditions of all sorts. Blend with Green Myrtle oil, Rosehip Seed and Hazelnut oils for care for aging skin as described by Dr. Kurt Schnaubelt in Advanced Aromatherapy. Excellent for mature skin care for firming and toning.
Suggested
Uses*:
Use on the skin in a carrier, alone or included with other essential oils. Also used in a diffuser for its uplifting aroma - it should be used sparingly in aromatic blends, as it can overpower other oils.
Possible Actions*: Traditionally has been used as a skin rejuvenator, treating infected wounds, skin ulcers, bronchitis, coughs, colds and1 flu, as a fumigant when infectious illness is around, as an ambient aroma to facilitate meditation. May be helpful during convalescence or when suffering from nervous exhaustion.
Possible
Indications*:
Cistus oil can be anti-infectious, and can help firm aging skin.
Cautions: Always test a small amount of essential oil first for sensitivity or allergic reaction. If pregnant, use under a doctor's care.
Blends and
Recipes:
Cistus blends well with Angelica, Cedarwood, Coriander, Chamomiles, Clary Sage, Cypress, Lavender, Frankincense, Juniper, Pine, Rose, Lemon and other citrus oils, Neroli, Petitgrain, Sandalwood, Patchouli, and Vetiver.
