Post Oils for bed bugs?
I heard brief mention of cedar oil for controlling bed bugs. Is this effective and how best to use the oils?

Yes, it is in much of the aromatherapy literature that it will "scare them away". You can try one of a couple techniques to start: simply spray some cedar essential oil all around under the mattress (not necessarily a lot, but evenly distributed) or put it in a spray bottle 1 part cedar, half that same amount of "tween" (at the bottom of the Bottles and Pipettes page), and about 9 parts water.

The tween helps keep the cedarwood oil mixed in the water so you don't need to shake it (as much) before each use. So, for example, for each ounce, use 3ml (100 drops) cedar essential oil, 50 drops tween, and the rest water. Spray this between the mattress and box-spring.

It is extracted from cedar oil through process of distillation. It is very useful in curing skin problems like eczema, rashes and skin eruptions. It is also effective to reduce the scratch of stretch marks. It is good for hair problems like falling hair and dandruff.

Re: annalaurabrown's reply, I searched for this product and found the following information. See below. I had GREAT and COMPLETE success eliminating all sorts of biting bugs with a blend of Catnip Oil and Geranium x Asperum in a blend of water and alcohol. 1 cup Water, 1 Cup Vodka (or rubbing alcohol), 44 drops of Catnip & 88 drops of Geranium. It smells good and you can spray it on clothing, bedding and skin (avoid eye area). Ananda has a new spray called Catnip Bug Be Gone, which is a blend of these same two oils in a spring water base. It's very reasonably priced, considering the cost of purchasing the Catnip oil alone. But since Catnip has been proven to be 20 times more powerful (And SAFER) than DEET, you need very little.

TerraShield®
Outdoor Blend

TerraShield® is an all-natural formula of lemon eucalyptus, citronella, lemongrass, and a proprietary blend of 12 other therapeutic-grade essential oils blended in a base of pure fractionated coconut oil. A primary function of essential oils in plants is protecting against insects and other predators. Unlike other products that contain synthetic and toxic chemicals, TerraShield® is a natural approach to managing exposure to biting insects. TerraShield's® fresh, light citrus smell is wonderfully invigorating and can be used safely by everyone in the family. One application provides coverage that lasts up to 6 hours. Their website shows a cost of $12.67 for 12ml. THIS IS VERY EXPENSIVE...

I think some bed bug treatments is required to control bed bugs. Oil, pest control, sprays, neem leaves are all very effective for getting rid of bed bugs.

Rosemary oil and lavender oil can decrease the number of Bedbugs in your house. You can apply these oils in cracks and crevices to kill the eggs of the Bedbugs and prevent them from infesting the cracks again.

In a spray bottle, add

· ½ a Cup of 90% rubbing alcohol
· 7 drops organic eucalyptus oil
· 8 drops of organic lavender oil
· 7 drops of organic rosemary oil
· 4 drops of canola oil
then shake continually and spray to kill Bedbugs.
