The Science of CBD: Over 350 Research Articles Investigating Potential Health Benefits

New to CBD? Here’s a short introduction – our you can jump straight to the research links.

CBD‘ is  short for ‘cannabidiol’, the most abundant constituent of the CO2-extract of hemp (Cannabis sativa). CBD has been researched for a significant number medical benefits, but does not make people feel “stoned”. Because it does not induce the psychological effects it’s more well-known cousin THC, CBD may be an appealing treatment option for those seeking anti-inflammatory, anti-pain, anti-anxiety, anti-psychotic, and/or anti-spasm effects without causing troubling psychoactive effects like lethargy or dysphoria.*

CBD is the primary constituent of the CO2 extract of 'industrial' hemp.

Scientific and clinical studies underscore CBD’s potential as a treatment for a wide range of conditions, including arthritis, diabetes, alcoholism, MS, chronic pain, schizophrenia, PTSD, antibiotic-resistant infections, epilepsy, and other neurological disorders.

CBD has demonstrated neuroprotective and neurogenic effects, and its anti-cancer properties are currently being investigated at several academic research centers in the United States and around the World. [via Wikipedia]

Sleep Disorders

In the United States, approximately 70 million people suffer from insomnia, insufficient sleep or another sleep disorder. CBD has been mistakenly described as sedating. In modest doses, CBD is mildly alerting. Cannabidiol activates the same adenosine receptors as caffeine, a stimulant. But several patients with sleep issues report that ingesting a CBD-rich tincture or extract a few hours before bedtime has a balancing effect that facilitates a good night’s sleep.

Stroke/TBI

About one million people in the United States are treated in emergency rooms each year for traumatic brain injuries, resulting from traffic accidents, sports-related concussions, military injuries, and strokes.
