About the Oil:

This "Benchmark" Thyme is distilled from 4 strains of Thymus zygis. "Benchmark" Thyme is likely the most potent antimicrobial Thyme oil, while retaining much of the gentleness of the linalol chemotype. It has the greatest "efficacy-to-safety" ratio of any oil for antimicrobial use we've ever encountered. Very highly recommended for antibacterial applications and formulas.

Description

ABOUT THE OIL

This essential oil is extracted by steam distillation from the leaves and flowering tops of Certified Organically grown Thyme herb. "Benchmark" thyme actually refers to the company which 'designed' this oil - 'Benchmark Oils' of the UK. The essential oil is actually a blend of four 100% pure essential oils from different strains of Thymus zygis, each strain having a slightly different natural chemical profiles. It was developed by Maggie Tisserand, a pioneer of aroma-medicine, to specifically treat infections of antibiotic-resistant bacteria. The result is somewhat a cross between two essential oils thought to have potent anti-bacterial properties: Thyme and Tea Tree. 'Engineered' Antibacterial Activity One of the 'active' components of Tea Tree essential oil is called "terpenine-4-ol". It has been studied for its antibacterial properties, and is somewhat effective on its own. Yet as is the case with many natural therapeutics, this component works in conjunctoin with others in the essential oil. By creating a Thyme essential oil, containing thymol, carvacrol, and other constituents, also having terpenine-4-ol, Benchmark Oils has developed what appears to be the only single compound capable of destroying the MRSA bacteria, while still being gentle enough to not harm healthy tissue. While oregano essential oil is considered the most potent of the essential oils evaluated for their antibacterial activity, we believe 'Benchmark Thyme' to be a better choice. Oregano oil is so 'hot', that it really should not be used on the skin, except in the most dilute formulas. 'Benchmark' Thyme, however, will not burn the skin at 100% concentration, and is safe for use at a 5% dilution in the carrier oil of your choice.‚ Research has shown it to be highly effective.
