Concerned About Breast Cancer? Here's A Super Breast Care Essential Oil Recipe
This recipe was actually developed by a naturopathic doctor managing her own breast cancer. Here, we'll present the evidence of the anti-cancer properties of some of the blend's components, and leave you to decide on the possible efficacy of the formula for the potential prevention of breast cancer.
The key essential oils in the blend are Frankincense, Bay Laurel and Lemongrass. Frankincense essential oil has been shown in all the research performed thus far to cause the death of cancer cells, while leaving healthy cells unaffected.
The latest study is titled: Frankincense essential oil induces tumor cell-specific apoptosis and suppresses tumor aggressiveness in cultured human breast cancer cells. In it's conclusion, the researchers state: "...the essential oil may be effective for advanced breast cancer."
You can read our blog post specifically about this research here: http://www.anandaapothecary.com/weblog/2012/05/reaserch-update-frankincense-essential-oil-causes-death-of-breast-cancer-cells/
Bay Laurel essential oil has been described by Dr. Kurt Schnaubelt, America's leading medical aromatherapist, as the number one oil for moving lymph, and breast tissue contains a high concentration of lymph nodes.
From breastcancer.org: "Lymph is a clear fluid that travels through your body's arteries, circulates through your tissues to cleanse them and keep them firm, and then drains away through the lymphatic system. Lymph nodes are the filters along the lymphatic system. Their job is to filter out and trap bacteria, viruses, cancer cells, and other unwanted substances, and to make sure they are safely eliminated from the body."
The third ingredient, Lemongrass essential oil, has also been shown in research to cause the death of cancer cells by inducing apoptosis, in a study titled "The Anti-Cancer Activity of an Essential Oil from Cymbopogon Flexus (Lemongrass)". Also in the blend are our organic Jasmine extract and Rose Otto, both included for their aroma-therapeutic action of enhancing a woman's appreciation of her femininity. Plus, the blend sure does smell fantastic.
Here's the recipe for 12ml of the blend:
5ml Bay Laurel
4ml Frankincense (we recommend the 2-species blend of Frankincense
1/2ml Rose Otto
1/2ml Organic Jasmine Extract
(Incidentally, should you prefer to try this already made, the blend is available on our Essential Oil Blends page as Graceful Goddess).
Some use the blend 'neat' or undiluted (always do a small 'test patch' first, to check your skin's reaction), though we generally recommend a 5% dilution of the essential oils in a carrier oil for regular daily use. Any carrier oil will do. For more concentrated, therapeutic use, step up to a 10% dilution. To make a 5% concentration, simply add the 12ml's of essential oils to an 8 ounce bottle of carrier oil - for 10%, add to 4oz (120ml) carrier - and invert over and over for 30 seconds.
As a preventative measure, one could perform self-massage with the blend 3-7x per week. Simply massage-in until the oils are significantly absorbed into the skin.
We wish you the best of health!
