Cultivation Icons Definitions
At The Ananda Apothecary we hold organic certifications for most of our essential oils. What do these certifications and their associated icons really mean?
Third party certification was a large goal of The Ananda Apothecary and in 2017 we finally achieved organic certification for over 60 of our amazing oils and extracts. We also got our production facility organically certified which means that we follow correct SOP for handling, monitoring, and packaging our Organic products (as well as maintain the same details on all of our other non organic products). With all of this being said our labels and product descriptions have some new and exciting information that needs to be understood by our new and old customers alike!
The Wild logo is specifically used on oils that are cultivated in nature where historically they have existed for many years on our planet. Whether it be forests or fields plants in "Wildcrafted" conditions are pesticide free and are cultivated by hand usually. Different varieties of essential oils are higher quality or preferred to be found in a more natural environment to ensure predictability of the product. For example: the integrity of the soil (levels of natural compounds in the soil), elevation (pressure changes on the growth of the plant), and humidity of the cultivation parameters (which can also effect chemical composition of the oil). These "Wild" conditions are reserved to only particular types of essential oils ( an example of a few oils: Amyris, Sweet Birch, and all of our Frankincense Oils). The final important aspect to "Wildcrafted" essential oils are that they are supposed to be harvested with the plant species survival in mind. By not devastating the original ecosystem of the natural habitat, future generations can enjoy these amazing oils.
The Ecocert ICO logo is perhaps the most important new logo that is on our labels and website here at The Ananda Apothecary. This logo is granted from our 3rd party certifying body (Ecocert ICO). This company has many ties to Europe and North America and targets both of the continents organic requirements. We chose Ecocert ICO due to its prominence in the essential oil industry. We also loved that this company is so large in Europe because a majority of our oils are indeed from Europe. Here at The Ananda Apothecary we are organically certified as a facility, and every Organic oil that we carry (Melissa, Arnica, and German Chamomile are some examples of just a few of the amazing organic oils that we provide) has been verified by Ecocert ICO for cultivation practices and organic farming certification. Our amazing production staff are trained to meet all protocols that are required of the USDA because of our third party organic certification. The USDA logo is representative of our overall organic certification governing system, it carries with it a specific set of regulations that are monitored here domestically in the United States by the Department of Agriculture. The USDA has been around since 1862 when President Lincoln created it out of necessity to regulate U.S.A. farms. Ecocert ICO ensures that all USDA standards are met during the certification process of our products and our facility. This logo on our products will quickly allow consumers to understand the rigor and documentation that was required to obtain this level of standardization within our production facility.
The 100% P&N (one hundred percent pure and natural) tag is used for our products that are naturally farmed without use of chemical pesticides. These farms from all over the globe are not organically certified, but are aromatically and chemically superior products that we have sourced. Small natural farms are some of the best facilities for careful distillation and diligent care of product ingredients throughout the cultivation process. We have rigorous chemical testing standards to ensure that all of our oils have an aromatic and chemical profile that we feel best reflects our vision of therapeutic efficacy for each of our products.
