Ulcerative Colitis

Post by DaveCinVA » Tue May 20, 2014 1:14 pm

My youngest son has been diaginosed with ulcerative colitis and is taking a bunch of meds to control it. We finally seem to have it under control after some scary moments since last Thanksgiving. My question is two fold;

1 - Does anyone know of any blends that may help address and/or correct this problem naturally using essential oils?

2 - The meds that he is now on state that they may weaken his ability to fight off other, possibly more serious infections, making him prone to getting sick. What would you suggest he start taking to help really boost his immune system to help fight off possible infections?

I am new to EO and aromatherapy but believe in its ability to help the body heal and defend itself form many ailments.

Thanks in advance for anything you might provide! :D

Hi Dave. Sorry to hear about your son.

Frankincense would be very good. A drop or two in a glass or water 3 or 4 times weekly, and obviously monitor the results. It is said to be good for ulcerative colitis, and excellent for boosting the immune system.

Bergamot, rosemary verbenone, and cineole-rich oils such as cajeput are also useful for boosting the immune system.

Hope this helps, and let us know how it works out.

My son now has a C-Dif infection that is now causing problems, we have tried a fecal transplant and he is taking an antibiotic to control it. It goes away and then comes right back when we stop. Nothing seems to get rid of the C-Dif. His mother is against using essential oils but I am about to over-ride the issue and begin using oils to retreat him.

Thoughts on getting rid of the C-Dif?

hi. I have had Crohn's 25 years and also work in an environment with C Diff is commonly seen. To protect myself, of course, hand hygiene is super important as the C diff spores aren't removed from alcohol based hand sanitizers. Regarding EO use, I apply either oregano, clove oil and cinnamon oil - neat to my feet after a hot shower to assist in absorption. Few drops on one foot then few drops of another oil on other foot. I also take a few drops internally inside a capsule and would add On Guard or super immune type blends. Also, with active C diff, diet is a huge issue. I would remove all sugar and wheat, ramp up on healthy bacteria like goat yogurt, high grade probiotics, lots of water and rest. The doctor prescribed antibx is a huge culprit of C diff, key is to get off the antibx asap and repopulate the gut with healthy bacteria

best of health...

Thanks, good to know.

C-Diff is gone and have been for awhile, now trying to figure out what to use re: EO to help control the UC for him. He is on Remicade and its seems to help greatly but am worried about the side effects over time. Would prefer to work through using EO and diet but as a 10 year old, getting him to not eat bad things is a challenge to say the least.
