Witch Hazel as carrier?

Post by Vegaanders » Sat May 31, 2014 8:49 pm

I have made a formula for my wife, that is eaten alive by mozzies and noseeums, that work perfect. Some friends has also tested and one of them told me that she got greasy stains from it on her clothes. And they are hard to get rid of. And I am sure they come from the carrier I use, coconut oil.

Therefor I have been looking at witch hazel as a substitute. This will also mean that I can use a spray bottle for application.

But two questions arise. Is witch hazel a good carrier? Would the EO:s mix well with witch hazel or do I need an emulsifier?

Thanks in advance

Hi,

Witch hazel is fine, but yes, you'll still need an emulsifier. We offer 'tween' on our website, which one uses the same amount of tween as essential oil in the overall formula. We hear it's possible to use glycerin, but haven't tried.

All the best!
