Diffusing oils from a humidifier

Diffusing essential oils can be done for simple aromatic pleasure, or for one of several medicinal therapies. Do you want to diffuse anti-depressant oils, or maybe ones with potent antiviral or antibacterial properties?

Diffusing oils from a humidifier

Post by pjbadgers » Mon Feb 25, 2013 10:34 am

Hi,

I'm new to trying aromatherapy, and I was wondering if adding a few drops to a humidifier will work in dispensing the oils throughout a small area? Will a cold humidifier work or only one that uses warm air?

Hi,

Yes, absolutely, this is actually what an 'ultrasonic' diffuser does. No need for warm air...you should be able to smell the aroma, of course.

Cheers!

Hi ~ no, you just pure essential oils added to the water of the diffuser. Tween is for making aromatherapy sprays, where the oil and water do need to mix. In the diffuser, the oils will float on top of the water, but become part of the mist as it is made.

I've got a warm humidifier (good for killing bacteria) and a synergy diffuser.

I think they both have their benefits. My humidifier is 1.5 gallons. How much essential oil should I put it? It's hard to judge because I do NOT have a strong sense of smell and can almost never smell it in the water.
