Reusing Bottles

For example, how do you figure out a 3% concentration of your essential oil in 29 milliliters of carrier oil?

Reusing Bottles

Post by Available Light » Wed Jul 24, 2013 4:13 pm

When blending I only make an small amount ( 1 oz) at a time.

When I make the same formula again (w/ maybe a small variation) and clean the bottle, (soap, water, vodka), is it ok to use the bottle again? Do I need to boil it too?

Thanks

Hi. If I am using the same blend, I do not bother to do anything to the bottle. But using a bit of alcohol (denatured or spirits) I don't think would hurt anything!

If I am not using the same blend, then I use a new bottle.

I like to save my empty singles bottles to use for my blends that include that single. I don't bother washing them out unless they had a carrier with them. I have yet to get a used bottle to NOT smell like the original oil so I wouldn't reuse it for a new oil (except as mentioned in a blend)

I soak previously used bottles in water with dish detergent overnight, rinse them out the following day, air dry them and prior to use, rinse them with 70% rubbing alcohol, and air dry them again. A bit labor intensive, but I come from a stock (Iloco and Pangasinan) where reuse, recycle and willingness to work hard has been practiced for generations.
