Patchouli as Tick Repellant?

Post by *ether* » Wed Aug 03, 2011 11:12 am

I did a quick search online for essential oils as tick repellants and came across a couple sources claiming patchouli as being effective for this. Has anyone else heard of this? Does anyone here have any experience with patchouli in this way, or know of any studies?

Thanks,
ether

Haven't seen the studies -- patchouli was originally from India on cloth to prevent moth infestation (in fact, cloth made in England was eventually "spiked" with Patchouli because the Indian quality was thought higher and the perception of the smell increased the cloth value :)

Ticks are usually dealt with using cedarwood and/or geranium, but that certainly doesn't mean it wouldn't work. Interesting too about Catnip, that its first testing was done to repel cockroaches, so there too, might be one for ticks.

Cheers,
Eric
