It was a smaller operation, and that suited us. The roses were being picked in the early morning by women who talked, laughed, and sang as they moved through the fields. Nothing about the place felt arranged for visitors. The tanks stood nearly seven feet high, the room was filled with the aroma of fresh rose, and directly beneath them the farm dog was sound asleep.
