| Eucalyptus
Essential Oil has been referred to as a possible Aromatherapist's 'designer oil'. The 'Narrow
Leaf' or Radiata Eucalyptus Oil variety's wonderful aroma and low price help make it the number one Eucalyptus
Oil variety, and may be highly effective in treating coughing, sniffles, and a horse or scratchy throat for
some people. It is also excellent for cooling the body; add 5 or so drops per ounce of water in a spray bottle and enjoy the mist on a hot day.
This therapeutic grade Eucalyptus oil is also known as gray Eucalyptus
or gray peppermint Eucalyptus. Dr. Kurt Schnaubelt, in Advanced Aromatherapy, calls Eucalyptus radiata
the number 1, all purpose Eucalyptus oil. The oil is cooling, camphoraceous, stimulating and fresh, with a bright
top note. The oil and leaves of Eucalyptus are a traditional folk remedy of Australia, with the leaves of the
tree being smoked like tobacco to improve asthmatic conditions. Eucalyptus essential oil is even effective as
an insect repellent.
As one of the best remedies for the respiratory system, it is antiseptic, expectorant and antispasmodic. One of it's main components, Eucalyptol, is found in many over-the-counter cold remedies. An excellent way to utilize the oil's supportive properties is to add a few drops to a steaming bowl of water. The heat from the water will vaporize the essential oil, and you can inhale the moist, aromatic air to support your breathing. It may also dry up phlegm and provide relief of sinusitis.
Eucalyptus oil is also noted in the aromatherapy literature as having anti-viral properties, in addition to it's action as an anti-microbial. Eucalyptus and Pine oils added to a spray bottle of water can be used to disinfect room air - a cold-air nebulizer or adding the oil to a humidifier can do the same.
Eucalyptus oil's aroma tends to dominate when blended with other essential oils; if you are looking for a balanced scent, go slowly with the amount of eucalyptus you add. Eucalyptus will blend well with other tree oils such as Pine, Spruce or Black Spruce which may enhance it's expectorant effect, and present a lovely aroma.
When combined with Bergamot Oil, Eucalyptus Radiata Oil has been claimed effective on herpes simplex outbreaks.

Essential Oils: |
All oils from Ananda Aromatherapy are therapeutic grade,
meaning they are produced to the highest quality standards possible. Our essential oils are
chosen for their integrity (all chemical constituents important for aromatherapy are intact), ecological
'soundness' (most are organic or wild grown), and wonderful
aromas. You may order a sample of any oil before trying larger amounts. Most samples are about .75ml; exotic oils such as Melissa, Rose, Angelica and Jasmine are only a few drops, but certainly enough to enjoy their aroma! |
