Helichrysum odoratissimum (L.) Sweet (Mediterranean species)

Helichrysum odoratissimum (L.) Sweet

The oil distilled from this species of helichrysum has been described as having an earthy, herbaceous, and almost pine-like fragrance. The chemical content of this oil is higher in pinenes and 1,8-cineole than its counterparts, and thus is recommended for use as an excellent cold and sinus aid. These components are said to have respiratory, mucolytic, and antispasmodic properties, which are beneficial when treating coughs and congestion, while the anti-inflammatory effects of Helichrysum odoratissimum are fantastic at reducing the swelling associated with sinus infections and headaches. It has been suggested that this oil works best at combating these respiratory and immune disorders when combining it with Helichrysum bracteiferum and Helichrysum gymnocephalum to give it a synergistic effect.
