Clear Passage™

Sinus & Airway Clearing · Aromatic Blend

The head that won't clear. Thick, stubborn congestion. That feeling that you would simply like to breathe freely again.

Clear Passage™ was made for those moments. It is one of Ananda's more particular respiratory formulas, built around Inula — an unusual and wonderfully penetrating aromatic that has long had a place in European aromatherapy when congestion feels thick and difficult to move.

Blue Gum Eucalyptus, Rosemary and Cinnamon complete the formula, giving it a fresh, penetrating character with just enough warmth underneath.

This isn't an everyday blend. Clear Passage™ is the one to reach for when congestion feels stubborn and you want something more purposeful than a fresh Eucalyptus aroma.

Formulation Logic

RESEARCH-FORMULATED™ · Formulation Logic, Applied.

Clear Passage™ begins with Inula. This is the oil that gives the formula its particular character and purpose. It is penetrating, distinctive and quite unlike the Eucalyptus-led respiratory blends most people know. We built the rest of Clear Passage™ around it.

Blue Gum Eucalyptus brings the familiar freshness of a cineole-rich respiratory oil. Its principal constituent, 1,8-cineole, has also been studied in human respiratory research, including for its mucolytic and anti-inflammatory activity.

Rosemary adds a clean herbal note, so the blend doesn't simply smell of Eucalyptus.

Cinnamon is the surprise. It brings a small amount of warmth beneath all that freshness, while laboratory research has also found notable antibacterial activity against respiratory-tract organisms, including in vapor-phase testing.

Applications

Diffusion

Short sessions in well-ventilated spaces.

Personal Inhalation

Indirect wafting or inhaler use — 3 inhalations with breaks is sufficient; wait approximately 30 minutes between sessions.

Topical Use

Only when properly diluted; apply away from the face and mucous membranes.

Aroma

Penetrating, crisp, and slightly warming.

Bright, cooling eucalyptus lift opens the blend, followed by herbal sharpness from rosemary and a subtle base warmth from cinnamon. Immediate and functional—designed to register quickly and then release.

Questions & Answers

Before you buy

QWhat is the difference between Clear Passage™ and Breathe Deep™?

Breathe Deep™ is the fresher, easier blend to reach for when breathing feels stuffy and you want immediate respiratory comfort. Peppermint, Eucalyptus Radiata, Ravintsara, Lemon, and Wintergreen give it its cool, invigorating character.

Clear Passage™ was made for the heavier end of the spectrum — when congestion feels thick, stubborn, and difficult to move. Inula sits at the center, with Blue Gum Eucalyptus, Rosemary, and Cinnamon around it.

Choose Breathe Deep™ for stuffiness and fresh respiratory comfort. Choose Clear Passage™ when the congestion feels heavier and more persistent.

QHow long should I use Clear Passage™?

Clear Passage™ was made to come out when you need it and go back on the shelf when you don't.

Use it for short periods while congestion is present rather than making it part of an everyday aromatic routine. With a formula this penetrating, a little goes a long way.

QWhat about sinus pressure — is that the same reason I would use Clear Passage™?

Often, yes. When sinus pressure comes with that heavy, congested feeling — thick mucus, a blocked nose, or the sense that everything simply needs to move — that is very much the territory Clear Passage™ was made for.

Eucalyptus brings 1,8-cineole to the formula, a constituent with human respiratory research behind it, while Inula gives Clear Passage™ its more particular place when congestion feels thick and stubborn.

Ingredients

A concentrated aromatic blend of Inula, Rosemary, Blue Gum Eucalyptus, and Cinnamon.

Notes & Cautions

Inula is a powerful aromatic material, and more is not necessarily better.

  • For external aromatic and properly diluted topical use only. Do not ingest.
  • Diffuse sparingly and with adequate ventilation.
  • Dilute appropriately before topical use. Do not apply undiluted.
  • Avoid contact with the eyes, mucous membranes and the inside of the nose.
  • Not intended for children.
  • Seek qualified guidance before use during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
  • Discontinue use if the aroma causes respiratory or mucosal irritation.
  • Store tightly closed, away from heat and direct light.

Lineage

Clear Passage™ reflects Ananda's longstanding approach to respiratory formulas: choose the materials for the particular kind of breathing support wanted, and let each one do what it does best. It was made for the times when travel, the seasons or a stuffy room get in the way of breathing easily.

Further Study

The research below concerns individual materials and constituents relevant to Clear Passage™. It does not test Clear Passage™ itself.

Inula — Essential-Oil Chemistry and Biological Activity

Mitić V, Stankov Jovanović V, Ilić M, Jovanović O, Djordjević A, Stojanović G. Dittrichia graveolens (L.) Greuter Essential Oil: Chemical Composition, Multivariate Analysis, and Antimicrobial Activity. Chemistry & Biodiversity. 2016;13(1):85–90.

The researchers identified 54 compounds representing 92.9% of the oil, with borneol (43.6%) and bornyl acetate (38.3%) dominating this particular sample. The oil was active against the Gram-positive bacteria tested. Inula chemistry can vary considerably between origins and batches.

Inula — Activity Against Staphylococcus aureus

Guinoiseau E, Luciani A, Rossi PG, Quilichini Y, Ternengo S, Bradesi P, Berti L. Cellular effects induced by Inula graveolens and Santolina corsica essential oils on Staphylococcus aureus. European Journal of Clinical Microbiology & Infectious Diseases. 2010;29(7):873–879.

This study examined Inula essential oil itself against S. aureus. It demonstrated bactericidal activity at the concentrations studied, with electron microscopy showing changes involving the bacterial membrane and cell wall. This was laboratory research rather than a human respiratory study.

1,8-Cineole — Human Respiratory Research

Fischer J, Dethlefsen U. Efficacy of cineole in patients suffering from acute bronchitis: a placebo-controlled double-blind trial. Cough. 2013;9(1):25.

In this randomized, double-blind trial, 242 adults with acute bronchitis received standardized cineole or placebo for ten days. The cineole group showed significantly greater improvement in the bronchitis symptom score, with differences apparent after four days. The study used orally administered cineole rather than inhaled Eucalyptus, but provides useful human evidence for the respiratory activity of this important Eucalyptus constituent.

Cinnamon & Eucalyptus — Respiratory-Pathogen Research

Ács K, Balázs VL, Kocsis B, Bencsik T, Böszörményi A, Horváth G. Antibacterial activity evaluation of selected essential oils in liquid and vapor phase on respiratory tract pathogens. BMC Complementary and Alternative Medicine. 2018;18:227.

The researchers tested essential oils against several respiratory-tract bacteria in both liquid and vapor-phase systems. Cinnamon Bark was particularly active and was the most effective oil in vapor-phase testing across the organisms studied. Eucalyptus showed comparatively weak antibacterial activity — a useful distinction, since its place in Clear Passage™ rests more strongly on its cineole-rich respiratory character than on antimicrobial activity.
