The Standard™ | Therapeutic Notes
Traditional Use Context · Cosmetic Formulation Logic · Research References
The Standard™ is an all-in-one men’s grooming oil created for real-life use: beard wear, shaving, and daily facial care in one disciplined formula. This page documents the formulation logic, traditional-use context for the botanical materials, and selected research references relevant to topical cosmetic use.
Important: Research references do not convert essential oils into medical treatment. The Standard™ is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent disease.

Role in This Cabinet
Role in This Cabinet: A single daily grooming oil for men designed to condition beard hair, support skin comfort after shaving, and maintain a calm, resilient-looking complexion through routine use.
What The Standard™ Is Designed to Support / Cosmetic Use Only
The Standard™ is designed for the common realities of men’s facial skin: shaving irritation, itchiness beneath facial hair, environmental exposure, and the need for simple maintenance without a multi-product routine.
This formula is intended to support:
- a more comfortable-feeling shave finish
- reduced appearance of dryness and rough texture
- a smoother, calmer-looking skin surface
- softened beard hair and better grooming feel
- skin comfort beneath the beard (where irritation often builds)
The goal is not intensity. It is reliability.
Why This Formula Exists (In-House Story)
This formula was born from a very practical truth: the men around us didn’t want a “line.” They wanted one bottle.
During the original Ananda era, we offered multiple men’s grooming items, including the Bolder Beard oil. It worked—and it developed a loyal following—but the feedback stayed consistent: “Can you make one that works for everything?” Beard days and shaved days. Irritation under hair, and sensitivity after shaving. A single oil that didn’t burn, didn’t shine, didn’t smell like cologne—and didn’t require thinking.
So we made it. The Standard™ is that answer.
It also became something quietly meaningful for the women in our community. Many were the ones purchasing it for husbands, partners, fathers, and sons. Some simply wanted one grooming oil in the home that didn’t clash with fragrance or feel like a cosmetic product. The Standard™ was built to be used, shared, and reached for—without any performance.
CO₂ Extraction Rationale / Men’s Grooming Logic
The Standard™ uses CO₂ extracts for a different reason than Ever Bright™ or Ever Youthful™.
In women’s facial serums, our focus is often refinement: tone, radiance, and long-form skin polish. In under-eye care, we prioritize extreme gentleness and minimal exposure.
In men’s grooming, the need is different: performance under friction.
Beard hair is coarse. Shaving is mechanical stress. The skin beneath facial hair is often occluded, irritated, and prone to dryness. This formula requires materials that behave well under movement, absorb cleanly, and remain present long enough to support comfort without heaviness.
CO₂ extracts are used here because they retain heavier, less volatile plant fractions that integrate exceptionally well into dermal oils. In practice, these fractions provide:
- more sustained skin-conditioning presence
- less “flash-off” compared to purely volatile aromatics
- a smoother glide and better grooming feel
- a calmer finish on stressed skin zones
This is why Rosehip Seed CO₂ and Carrot Root CO₂ anchor the formula: not for perfumery, but for functional topical performance.
Why This Formula Works / Formulation Logic
The Standard™ is built in layers.
First: skin and beard conditioning base
Jojoba is chosen for skin compatibility and clean absorption. It behaves closer to human sebum than most oils and supports a low-shine finish. Pomegranate seed adds richness without greasiness, supporting a more resilient feel in skin that is exposed and frequently shaved.
Second: CO₂ structure for sustained conditioning
Rosehip Seed CO₂ contributes lipid support and surface refinement logic for rough or weathered skin. Carrot Root CO₂ adds additional antioxidant-oriented botanical weight, chosen for its “steadying” role in facial care formulas where exposure is constant.
Third: aromatic-resin support for calm and coherence
Frankincense sacra, Helichrysum, Myrrh, and Sandalwood were selected for their long-standing topical use traditions in skin care, their composure in oils, and their ability to create a grounded, masculine aromatic profile without reading as fragrance or aftershave. They also tend to wear close to the skin and support the “quiet confidence” of the blend.
Everything is chosen to support long-term use.
Evidence - what research can and cannot say
There are limited human trials that study “beard oils” as a category. Most relevant evidence is mechanistic (cell models, in vitro antimicrobial/antioxidant activity, compositional analysis) or indirect (studies on constituent behavior, resin extracts, carrier oil topical roles).
This does not diminish the formula. It simply defines the posture: The Standard™ is built primarily on formulation logic, material behavior in dermal oils, and conservative traditional-use practice—not on men’s grooming RCTs, meaning randomized controlled trials for men’s grooming outcomes.
Use Discipline & Contraindications
The Standard™ is designed for daily use, but care is still required.
For external use only. Patch test recommended, especially on freshly shaved skin. Avoid direct eye contact. Do not apply to broken skin. Discontinue use if irritation occurs.
If pregnant, nursing, or under medical care, consult a qualified professional prior to use.
