Light Shield™
Composure, Discernment, and Personal Boundaries · Aromatic Blend
There are times when being around other people asks more of you than usual — a crowded event, a difficult meeting, travel, public-facing work, or simply a day when there is too much coming at you at once.
Light Shield™ was made for those moments. Not to shut the world out, but to help you remain grounded, alert, and composed while moving through it.
Where Wise™ turns attention inward for clarity and discernment, Light Shield™ was composed for contact: remaining present without becoming scattered, and engaged without carrying the entire room home with you.
Formulation Logic
RESEARCH-FORMULATED™ · Formulation Logic, Applied.
Light Shield™ was never built to hit a single function.
Ylang Ylang Extra, Rose Absolute, Melissa, Wild Lavender, and Hyssop form the heart. Bergamot and Spruce hold the top. Myrrh, Tobacco Absolute, and the two Sandalwoods form the base. Nothing here carries the formula alone — the steadiness comes from how the three registers hold together.
Research on Ylang Ylang, Sandalwood, Melissa, and Rose gives some of these choices real support — for stress, anxiety, and calm. That's context, not the reason the formula exists.
Light Shield™ was designed as one complete composition first — an Alchemy formula in the oldest sense, where proportion and structure do the work no single ingredient could do alone.
Questions & Answers
Can Light Shield™ stop me from absorbing other people's emotions or energy?
Not literally. Light Shield™ does not create an invisible barrier between you and other people. Its role is as an aromatic point of reference — something you can return to when a room, conversation, or group dynamic begins to pull too much of your attention outward. The formula was composed for exactly that kind of steadiness: remaining engaged without feeling as though you have to take everything in.
What if I tend to feel overwhelmed or depleted in crowded or intense environments?
That is one of the contexts in which Light Shield™ makes the most sense. Use it before entering the environment, rather than waiting until you already feel depleted. Its full aromatic structure was deliberately built to feel grounded without becoming sedating — enough lift to remain present and enough depth to give the composition weight and continuity.
Is Light Shield™ meant to replace actually setting boundaries with people?
No. Personal boundaries are ultimately expressed through choices, limits, and communication. Light Shield™ serves a different purpose: it gives you a sensory ritual around that intention. For some people, having a familiar aroma before a difficult meeting, social event, travel day, or demanding interaction becomes a useful way of remembering how they intend to enter the situation — grounded, alert, and composed.
Aroma
Full-bodied and slow to disclose itself. The opening is floral — Ylang Ylang clearly present, lifted by a restrained citrus note from Bergamot — but it does not remain bright for long. Woods, resin, and Tobacco begin to appear beneath it, giving the blend a dry, composed depth.
On some skin the Ylang Ylang leads throughout; on others, the woods and Myrrh come forward first. The finish is persistent and darkly polished — closer to a concentrated personal fragrance than a conventional aromatherapy blend. If you do not like the aroma of Ylang Ylang, this blend may not be for you.
Applications
Pulse Points and Personal Use
Use a very small amount — one drop is typically sufficient — on pulse points before entering a crowded, public, or socially demanding environment. Patch test first and follow label directions. This is a dense, concentrated composition; over-application obscures the structure rather than strengthening it.
Threshold Ritual
Return to it after an intense encounter or prolonged social exposure to mark the transition back into your own space. Apply to the wrist or collar, or inhale briefly from a personal inhaler.
Diffusion
Diffuse briefly before or after a gathering when a room needs a clear reset. This is not a composition that benefits from continuous diffusion. Test fabric before applying to clothing.
Ingredients
Ylang Ylang Extra, Bergamot, Spruce, Wild Lavender, Hyssop, Melissa, Rose Absolute, Myrrh, Australian Sandalwood, Royal Hawaiian Sandalwood, and Tobacco Absolute.

Lineage Note
Light Shield™ belongs to Ananda's Alchemy lineage. The Alchemy formulas were composed from the principle that a finished blend should be understood as more than the sum of its ingredients. Light Shield™ is a particularly complete example of that approach: top, middle, and base are all fully developed. Here, it refers to a practical aromatic ritual for composure, discernment, and the maintenance of personal boundaries — not a promise of invulnerability.

Further Study
A selection of research relevant to the materials and formulation logic behind Light Shield™. These studies examine human responses to individual aromatic materials. They do not test Light Shield™, Ananda's proportions, or the finished composition, and they do not establish effects on personal boundaries, composure, or performance under social exposure.
Sandalwood
Höferl M, Hütter C, Buchbauer G. A pilot study on the physiological effects of three essential oils in humans. Natural Product Communications. 2016;11(10):1561–1564.
In a small experimental-stress study involving 32 participants, inhalation of East Indian and Western Australian Sandalwood oils was associated with reduced systolic blood pressure during recovery; Western Australian Sandalwood also produced a distinct reduction in salivary cortisol compared with control. The study does not test Hawaiian Sandalwood, Light Shield™, or subjective concepts such as grounding.

This randomized study found lower salivary alpha-amylase and greater reduction in trait-anxiety scores with Ylang Ylang aroma in 44 patients facing a procedural medical setting, although not all measured outcomes differed significantly. Findings are specific to a hospitalized procedural population and do not establish effects in routine use.

In 68 hemodialysis patients, inhaled Melissa essential oil was associated with differences in anxiety and several symptom measures after one month of use three times weekly. The clinical setting substantially limits generalization to occasional personal use or to Light Shield™.

Rose
Hongratanaworakit T. Relaxing effect of rose oil on humans. Natural Product Communications. 2009;4(2):291–296.
In 40 healthy volunteers, transdermal exposure to rose oil while inhalation was blocked was associated with changes in several autonomic measures and with greater self-rated calmness and relaxation. The experiment used rose oil through a different exposure route and does not directly represent Rose Absolute, olfactory use, or the finished Light Shield™ composition.
