Awakened Wisdom™

For the Years After Menopause · Aromatic Blend

There is a time after menopause when the larger changes may have passed, yet something still feels different. Stress can take longer to release. The capacity to return to a settled state may take longer than it once did. Awakened Wisdom™ was created for this quieter passage. A blend of Rose Otto, Neroli, Ylang Ylang, Geranium, and Frankincense Serrata CO₂, composed for moments when calm, perspective, and a return to steadiness are wanted.

This isn't a formula for hormonal symptoms. It's for the part that comes after: stress that lands differently, mood that shifts more easily, a settling-down that takes longer than it used to. Estrogen does more than regulate reproduction. It also influences brain chemistry involved in mood, emotional regulation and the way we respond to everyday events.

As estrogen becomes less predictable and then declines, the threshold for emotional activation can change. Small comments may land harder. Irritation can arrive faster. Sadness or frustration may feel disproportionate to what actually happened and then pass just as quickly once expressed. This is sometimes described as heightened emotional reactivity. It is not simply "more stress." The nervous system may be processing and regulating emotional input differently than it once did. For many women, recognizing that distinction is important. The reaction is real, even when the trigger seems small.

Formulation Logic

RESEARCH-FORMULATED™ · Formulation Logic, Applied.

The formula works through different but complementary roles: Rose for emotional steadiness and warmth, Neroli for anxious activation and stress response, Ylang Ylang for relaxation and down-regulation, Geranium for balance and definition, Frankincense Serrata CO₂ for grounding and depth.

Rose Otto is the central material in the blend. Genuine Bulgarian Rosa damascena has long been used aromatically during periods of grief, change, and emotional fatigue, and human aromatic studies support its use when calm, rest, and emotional ease are wanted.

Neroli provides the clearest stress-response component. Citrus aurantium flower oil has been studied in human settings involving anxiety and autonomic measures. I contributes a bright citrus-floral character to the upper register. It is well suited to those times when stress remains present long after the immediate cause has passed.

Ylang Ylang adds softness and body through the middle of the composition. In human studies research on Cananga odorata inhalation has examined relaxation, blood pressure, pulse rate, and measures of calm — quieting physiological tension without being sedating.

Geranium's greener, more herbaceous profile gives the formula definition keeps the florals balanced and clear. Pelargonium graveolens has also been studied for anxiety and stress but is here to broaden the composition.

Frankincense Serrata CO₂ is the resinous base. Its dry, warm character anchors the florals and functions as the resinous counterweight that slows an the composition built from volatile florals.

Awakened Wisdom™ brings together materials studied in different areas of emotional and nervous-system response, each given a distinct place in the formula.`

Questions & Answers

Is Awakened Wisdom™ intended to treat menopause symptoms?

No. Awakened Wisdom™ was not formulated as a treatment for hot flashes, night sweats, vaginal dryness, or other physiological symptoms of menopause. Its purpose is narrower: emotional composure during and after the menopausal transition. That distinction is supported by the broader research landscape.

Psychological symptoms such as anxiety, irritability, low mood, stress, and difficulty coping are commonly studied alongside menopause, and aromatherapy has been investigated as one complementary approach. A systematic review found some positive results for aromatherapy in menopausal women, but also concluded that the evidence is not strong enough to regard aromatherapy as a stand-alone treatment. Awakened Wisdom™ is positioned accordingly: as an aromatic formulation for composure.

Is there actually research on essential oils in postmenopausal women?

Yes — and one ingredient in Awakened Wisdom™ is unusually relevant. A randomized controlled trial specifically studied Neroli essential oil in postmenopausal women. Inhalation was associated with changes in stress measures, blood pressure, and sexual desire.

Neroli has also been studied in other human populations for situational anxiety, including acute coronary care, pre-operative settings, and childbirth. That does not mean Neroli “treats menopause.” It does mean its inclusion in Awakened Wisdom™ is considerably more defensible.

Can it help with anxiety or feeling emotionally overwhelmed?

Several materials in the formula have been investigated in that direction, although the strength of evidence varies. Rose Otto / Rosa damascena has a substantial clinical literature involving anxiety, stress, and related psychological outcomes. Neroli has human research involving acute anxiety and stress.

Geranium has also reduced state-anxiety scores in a randomized inhalation trial, although that particular study involved women in labor rather than menopausal women.

Ylang Ylang has a more limited human evidence base; much of the mechanistic anxiety research remains preclinical. This is why the formula does not assign every oil the same vague “calming” function. The materials bring different levels and types of evidence to the composition.

Does Awakened Wisdom™ affect estrogen or “balance hormones”?

The postmenopausal Neroli trial measured estrogen as one of its outcomes, but the useful finding for this formulation is not that an essential oil can replace estrogen or restore hormonal balance. Current evidence does not justify positioning Awakened Wisdom™ as an endocrine treatment.

Awakened Wisdom™ is an aromatic nervous-system and emotional-support formulation, not a phytoestrogen product and not hormone replacement therapy. It was not formulated for direct hormonal symptom management. Its purpose is emotional and nervous-system support during a period of life when stress, mood, and the capacity to settle may feel different.

What about libido? Is that part of the reason for Ylang Ylang and Neroli?

There is some research relevance, particularly for Neroli. Neroli has been studied in postmenopausal women with sexual desire among the measured outcomes, and a systematic review has examined aromatherapy for sexual-function concerns during menopause.

The evidence remains limited, so Awakened Wisdom™ should not be presented as a treatment for low libido. Ylang Ylang has a long traditional association with sensuality and reduced inhibition, but its strongest modern anxiety evidence is still largely preclinical. Its role in Awakened Wisdom™ therefore spans both composition and function: it deepens the relaxing character of the blend and prevents the formula from becoming purely cerebral or austere.

Aroma

Deep floral notes with a soft citrus lift and a warm resinous base.

The opening is Rose Otto and Neroli — clear, warm, and distinctly botanical. Ylang Ylang deepens and softens the middle. Frankincense Serrata draws the composition toward resin in the dry-down. Layered and settling rather than bright.

Applications

Inhalation

Inhale directly from the bottle or use with a personal inhaler. Effective for immediate calming and as a consistent daily practice.

Diffusion

Diffuse 3–5 drops briefly to bring a gentle, steadying aromatic presence to the room. Switch off once the aroma has established itself.

Skin and Body

Dilute to 2–3% in a suitable carrier oil and apply to pulse points, behind the ears, or across the upper chest. This is a concentrated aromatic blend with no carrier added. Do not apply undiluted.

Ingredients

Essential oils of Rose Otto, Neroli, Geranium, Ylang Ylang, and Frankincense Serrata CO₂.

Notes and Cautions

  • For external aromatic and properly diluted topical use only. Do not ingest.
  • Concentrated aromatic blend with no carrier added. Do not apply undiluted.
  • Apply only to intact skin. Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes.
  • Patch test a diluted preparation before broader use. Discontinue if irritation develops.
  • Seek qualified guidance before use during pregnancy, while breastfeeding, or with young children.

In 63 healthy postmenopausal women, five days of Neroli inhalation improved selected menopause-related quality-of-life measures and reduced blood pressure compared with almond oil; sexual-desire ratings also increased. The study was small and brief and did not demonstrate hormonal restoration or long-term effects.

Seven randomized placebo-controlled trials found limited evidence that inhaled Neroli or Lavender improved overall menopausal symptom scores, with possible benefit for sexual desire. Different oils and methods across studies limited the certainty of the findings.
