Aromatic Character

Mildly sweet, softly fruity and herbaceous, with the dense, characteristic aroma of Sea Buckthorn pulp rather than the volatile lift of an essential oil.

The Ananda Archives gave unusually high regard to a particularly fine Sea Buckthorn material, describing its aroma as much more pleasant than other samples evaluated. That observation established an important part of the Ananda standard: the dramatic color may first attract attention, but the aroma should also feel rich, composed and comfortable within a finished facial or body preparation.

The material is orange-red, viscous and lipid-rich. Its color and texture matter more to formulation than its fragrance. Even a small amount can visibly warm the tone of pale facial oils, creams, balms and body preparations.

This is not a diffuser material. It is a fixed-lipid CO₂ total extract intended for topical formulation.

About This Extract

This material is produced from the dried fruit pulp rather than the seed or the complete berry. The pulp fraction is characteristically rich in palmitoleic and palmitic acids and carries the concentrated orange-red pigments associated with the fleshy part of the fruit. Seed oil is generally more strongly weighted toward linoleic and alpha-linolenic acids and has a different formulation role.

A CO₂ total extract retains the fixed-lipid matrix together with part of the unsaponifiable fraction. In the current batch, the documented fractions include carotenoids, sterols and tocopherols. This makes the material more concentrated and compositionally distinctive than a neutral carrier oil.

The Ananda Archives regarded Sea Buckthorn as one of the most consequential materials available for skin formulation. Its value was not understood as a reason to use it heavily. The opposite was true: a relatively small amount could materially change the character of a broader carrier base, adding color, richness and the distinctive composition of the fruit pulp.

That practical observation remains central to the present product. Sea Buckthorn is best treated as a concentrated component of a finished formula rather than as the complete carrier base.

The extract contains 0.08% organic Rosemary Antioxidant Extract. This helps protect the lipid material but does not replace cool, dark, tightly closed storage.

Ever Bright™ conditions the surface of the skin rather than attempting to correct every cause of darkness or swelling. It is most useful when the under-eye area looks tired or finely creased because it is dry. Regular use helps the skin remain softer, better cushioned, and more supple, but it is not a caffeine serum, retinoid treatment, or corrective product for genetic dark circles or persistent under-eye bags.

Why choose an under-eye oil rather than a conventional eye cream or active serum?

The lightweight MCT and Jojoba base leaves a fine cushion over thin under-eye skin, while Rose Absolute, Neroli, and Ylang Ylang Extra are used with restraint. It is nourishment rather than intervention.

Will it feel oily, interfere with makeup, or encourage milia?

Not when used in the very small amount intended. Press a thin film along the orbital bone and allow it to settle before applying concealer or other eye-area products. No formula can be guaranteed suitable for every person prone to milia, so avoid heavy application and discontinue use if small bumps or congestion develop. Because the formula contains aromatic botanicals, patch testing is particularly important for sensitive or scent-reactive skin.

Traditional Uses

Sea Buckthorn oils have a long history in topical skin preparations, but the name “Sea Buckthorn oil” can refer to seed oil, pulp oil, whole-berry oil or a combination of fractions. These materials may also be cold-pressed, conventionally extracted or produced with carbon dioxide. The source material and extraction method determine what the finished oil actually is.

The Ananda Archives placed the deeply colored berry oil in facial and body preparations as a concentrated part of a larger base. They recorded its strong red-orange color, the temporary hue it may leave on the skin and the need to use it with restraint.

The archive also preserved Sea Buckthorn’s place alongside Helichrysum, Lavender, Rosemary Verbenone, Carrot Seed and Rosehip Seed Oil. These were not presented merely as a collection of recognized skin materials. They were used to balance the dense pulp fraction with lighter carriers and carefully chosen aromatic components.

Modern literature has examined Sea Buckthorn oils, fruit extracts and isolated constituents in relation to skin barrier function, inflammatory signaling, oxidative stress and tissue repair. The studies involve different plant fractions, extraction methods, routes and finished preparations. They do not establish that this retail CO₂ extract treats burns, psoriasis, dermatitis, wounds, acne, ultraviolet injury or another diagnosed condition.

Within Ananda's practice, this material is used as a concentrated lipid-phase ingredient: a small amount adds a distinctive pulp-oil profile, visible colour, and a different fatty-acid architecture from lighter seed and carrier oils.


Applications

Skin and Body

A lipid-phase formulation ingredient for facial oils, serums, body oils, and balms, blended into a carrier or base and applied to intact skin. This is not a diffuser or inhalation material. Patch test any finished preparation before broader use.

Colour and Compatibility

The orange-red extract can tint a pale formula and may transfer to fabric. Evaluate colour, viscosity, and uniformity in a small sample before scaling. Redistribute any natural precipitate by gently warming the closed container and mixing; do not overheat.

Formulation Companions

Combines well with lighter seed and carrier oils such as Rosehip and Jojoba, where a small amount of this pulp extract adds colour, a distinct fatty-acid profile, and body.


Cultivation and Sourcing

The dried fruit pulp is grown in Germany and extracted in Germany using high-pressure carbon dioxide. The current Certificate of Analysis identifies the raw material as coming from organic farming.

The finished extract contains 0.08% organic Rosemary Antioxidant Extract. Relevant organic, analytical, batch, and traceability documentation is maintained in Ananda's internal records.

The current Certificate of Analysis reports the following principal fatty acids:

  • Palmitic acid: 35.8%
  • Palmitoleic acid: 30.9%
  • Oleic acid: 18.7%
  • Vaccenic acid: 6.6%
  • Linoleic acid: 5.3%
  • Alpha-linolenic acid: 1.7%
  • Stearic acid: 0.91%

The batch contains 36.9% saturated fatty acids, 56.1% monounsaturated fatty acids, and 7.0% polyunsaturated fatty acids.

Additional reported values include 6.6% unsaponifiable matter, 0.13% total carotenoids calculated as beta-carotene, 1.7% total sterols calculated as sitosterol, and 0.11% total tocopherols calculated as alpha-tocopherol.

The peroxide value was 1.9 meq O₂/kg and the water content was 0.13% at analysis.  

The current lot meets the supplier’s applicable analytical and general specifications.  These values describe this particular batch. They should not be used alone to rank quality, predict a clinical outcome, or compare Sea Buckthorn products without considering the plant fraction, extraction method, complete analysis, and finished formulation.


Ananda Archive Notes on Sea Buckthorn

The Ananda Archives describe Sea Buckthorn as mildly sweet and herbaceous, with a deep, rich color and a noticeably finer aroma than other Sea Buckthorn oils sampled at the time.

The archives consistently treated it as a concentrated ingredient rather than the whole of a carrier base. They noted that its deep color may leave a temporary hue on the skin while the finished oil absorbs.

Notes and Cautions

  • For external topical and formulation use. Do not ingest.
  • This is a fixed-lipid CO₂ total extract, not an essential oil. Do not place it in water-reservoir ultrasonic diffusers or use it as a volatile inhalation oil.
  • Do not apply the concentrated extract undiluted. Patch test completed topical preparations and discontinue use if irritation or sensitization develops.
  • The orange-red extract can temporarily tint skin and may stain pale fabric, towels, clothing, and porous surfaces.
  • Natural turbidity or precipitates may occur at room temperature. Gently warm the closed container between the hands and mix thoroughly; do not overheat.
  • Contains 0.08% organic Rosemary Antioxidant Extract. Avoid use if you have a known sensitivity to Rosemary-derived ingredients.
  • Avoid contact with eyes, mucous membranes, open wounds, burns, infected skin, and recent surgical incisions.
  • This product is not a sunscreen and should not be presented as protection from ultraviolet exposure.
